Supporting the local food community
We specialize in helping Atlanta’s food-based businesses with their essential operations. Over a decade working in Atlanta’s good food community, has led Lauren and Hendricks to create Sorghum & Rye Operations.
Bradley Hendricks, CFO & Founder
Hendricks worked as a chef for years before moving to the operations side of restaurants and boutique food manufacturers including inventory, payroll, human resources and bookkeeping. With over 20 years in the food industry, Hendricks understands your business needs.
Lauren Carey, CEO
Lauren managed Peachtree Road Farmers Market from 2009-2017 where helping young food businesses get started was a full-time job. Whether she was dealing with commercial kitchens, licensing and permits, labeling, insurance or good food sourcing, it wasn’t a job but a way of life. With a deep respect for local farmers, she co-founded The Farmer Fund, which supports Georgia’s sustainable farmers after natural disasters. Lauren is also a member of Les Dames d'Escoffier International, Atlanta chapter.
Areas of Service
The world of human resources is ever growing and evolving, and we’re not just talking about job descriptions. Struggling with Dept. of labor claims or workers compensation issues? That’s where we come in.
Quickbooks can be a businesses best friend or your worst enemy. We can setup and clean up your systems. Bookkeeping services include: accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations and end of month reporting. Payroll services, Sales Tax, Insurance
Setting up and maintaining payroll services is without a doubt the most important piece of trust between you and your team. With changing laws, tax rates and employee tips, take the stress out of payroll by taking it off your plate. We can also assist with monthly sales tax setup and filing -did you know that GA is a destination based state? What about insurance policies and managing annual audits? We got it!
The startup and small business marketplace is still a new and fierce frontier that requires balancing preparation and nimble reactions to changes. We can assist with food costing, budget creation and management, logistics and systems as well as inventory management.
Kitchen development & Licensing
Owning a food business has slim margins and lots of licensing requirements. Navigating the licensing (Department of Agriculture, Health Department, Liquor license, Fire Marshall, Department of Watershed) realm can be intimidating but failure to do it correctly can mean big fines and a complete stop in operations.
We also assist with: sanitation manuals, kitchen equipment & service contracts. Let us help.
Local food sourcing
Sourcing from local farmers and producers isn’t just trendy, it means building a community who supports you. Fresher cleaner ingredients prepared in partnership with fellow small businesses who grow with you is a smart investment. We can help you balance food cost and food quality.
